Grades

Each quarter has different skills that we will work on and begins with a blank slate.  Grades do not roll over to become cumulative.  Your child may have a 3 the first quarter and a 2 the second quarter because we discover new skills.  We will also play games and reinforce our social responsibility.

Quarter 1

K-3 non Loco-motor Skills and Directional Cues

K- Personal Space/General Space, Pace (speed), Levels:High, Med, Low, Pathways, and classroom procedures

1 – Personal Space, Right Left Clockwise Counter Clockwise, Pace, Levels, Pathways

2- Personal Space, Hard, Soft, Fast Slow, High Low, Pathway extensions

3- Personal Space, Pace, large group games, fitness testing introduction

4&5- FITNESSGRAM pretest: Skill concept and application, large group games

Students will be assessed on individual skills and the ability to apply that skill to a large group game.

Example: Personal Space

After skill/concept introduction and practice, students would be asked to find their own personal space.  If they can find their own personal space, that would be a 2.  Game play: Hula Hoop Hoe Down - Students listen to sound cues to tell them to find personal space or share a hula hoop with classmates.  Students that can find personal space would earn a 3.  Students that have trouble finding consistant personal space during our activity would be progressing toward our skill =2.

This year 4th and 5th graders will earn A, B, C, D, or F grades for their standards and O S N for conduct.  Students have self-assessed on FITNESSGRAM concepts.  As I assess fitness skills, we will reference our self-assessment sheets.  Each student will see their grades on the push up, curl up, and sit and reach portions of the test.  STUDENTS ARE NOT GRADED ON THE SCORE OF THE FITNESSGRAM!  As we want ALL students to be in the healthy fitness zone, we understand that health is a life long process and goal.  Students are graded on their form NOT the results.  More information will be sent home prior to report cards.
